Played on a board with 14 cups in it, this is a game of distribution and counting. Variations of the game appeal to different ages and make it challenging and exciting. This game in played not only in many parts of India, but across the world as well. While the game boards were traditionally made of wood, our current need is to conserve forests and trees. The new Pallanguzhi from Kreeda is made from MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). This is a type of hardboard, which is made from wood fibres glued under heat and pressure. It can be made from almost any scrap wood that is normally of limited value.

  • One solitaire version believed to be played by Sita while in Lanka
  • Helps develop simple maths skills and fine motor skills. Believed to be therapeutic for those with arthritic fingers
  • Also called 'sowing game' since the action of dropping coins in the cups mimics sowing.
  • Rule sheet provided. White pebbles used as game pieces to echo traditional styles of play
  • Interlocking box for easy closure and convenient storage. Drawstring bag to hold game pieces.
  • As counters are small in size, children should be supervised during play.
  • Breakage is possible on rough handling and with regular use.
  • Hand-made items. Individual variations will exist.
