Warli painting is from the Northern Sahyadri region of Western India. Practiced by tribals in the region, it came into the mainstream in the 1970s. Initially practiced by married women to adorn the walls of their houses, this art form is now done usually on cloth or paper using pigment created from rice flour & water. It is usually monochrome with either black base & white figures or brown base with white figures.
